One of two teens missing since fleeing a Miramar group home was found dead this week on the grounds of a shuttered power plant in Arroyo, roughly 60 miles away. Authorities have not classified the death as a homicide.
Yadiel Torrales Lazú, 16, was found dead the evening of Sept. 9 at the old Central Lafayette power plant in Arroyo. He was identified the following morning.
Torrales Lazú had multiple gunshot wounds. The Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales division in Guayama is investigating. Authorities have classified the death as one of undetermined cause and have not announced a suspect or a motive.
Torrales Lazú was one of four minors who left the Hogar del Niño Manuel Fernández Juncos in Miramar on Aug. 27. Two were found safe in the two weeks that followed, as Condado Daily reported on Sept. 3 and again on Sept. 5. Torrales Lazú and a second teen, Damon Córdova Rivera, 15, remained missing.
Second teen still missing
Córdova Rivera has not been found. Puerto Rico Family Department Secretary Suzanne Roig Fuertes issued a statement following the discovery expressing condolences; she did not comment on the circumstances of the case.
