Police say video evidence connects a man found shot to death under the Kennedy Avenue bridge in Santurce to a La Perla shooting that wounded two men. Investigators have named the victim but have not identified suspects or a motive.
SAN JUAN, Oct. 31 — A San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) inspector said investigators have video evidence that lets them connect a body found under the Kennedy Avenue bridge in Santurce to a La Perla shooting that wounded two men, WAPA reported. Metro Puerto Rico reported that authorities are still working to establish how the two scenes relate. Both events took place early Thursday, Oct. 29.
The body was found in the Bechara sector after a 9-1-1 call at about 4:12 a.m., El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora reported. Inspector Edwin Figueroa said officers found a man in shorts and a white tank top with several bullet wounds.
Figueroa identified the dead man as Yabel Omar Acevedo Dávila, 25, WAPA reported. Metro spelled his first name “Jabel.” El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora reported earlier Thursday that he was a 25-year-old from Bayamón. Condado Daily has not independently confirmed the spelling of his name.
At about 4:22 a.m., El Nuevo Día reported, a 9-1-1 call reported two people with gunshot wounds who had reached Hoare hospital in Santurce. Both are in stable condition. El Vocero reported they are 27 and 19 and live in Puerta de Tierra, and Metro reported they told investigators they heard shots and were hit but denied involvement. Investigators found about five short-gun casings and bloodstains in front of the business Sin Prisa in La Perla, Metro reported. WAPA placed the business on Calle Lucila Silva, in Old San Juan.
Investigators found no casings under the bridge, which led them to think the man may have been shot in La Perla, Figueroa told El Nuevo Día. Police recovered a silver Kia Soul in the Cantera area that they believe was used to move the body, WAPA reported, and Metro reported that security cameras captured the vehicle, which remains in police custody. Primera Hora reported that the 2025 Kia Soul had apparent bloodstains and was not listed as stolen. El Nuevo Día’s earlier report placed the car in Barrio Obrero.
Earlier Thursday, Figueroa told El Nuevo Día that investigators could not certify it was the same event but were not ruling it out. He told Primera Hora it was premature to say whether the wounded men and the dead man knew each other or were bystanders.
No suspects have been identified and no motive has been established, Metro reported. The CIC’s Homicide Division, with prosecutor Christian Román Olmedo, is leading the investigation, Primera Hora reported, and the Institute of Forensic Sciences was at the scene, according to El Nuevo Día. Anyone with information can call 787-343-2020 confidentially, Metro reported. Condado Daily has not seen the video evidence.
