Gov. Jenniffer González-Colón extended the legal existence of the Corporación del Proyecto ENLACE del Caño Martín Peña for five more years under Executive Order OE-2026-049, keeping the agency intact well beyond its original 25-year term.
The order cites a 2022 Project Partnership Agreement between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Corporation and the Puerto Rico government that assigns responsibilities for the canal restoration project, including land, easements, rights of way, relocations and disposal areas, along with the Corporation’s obligation to help cover local matching funds.
The order doesn’t appropriate new money, waive permits or set a new construction schedule for the canal project, which runs through Santurce and Hato Rey communities bordering the Caño Martín Peña.
