NFEnergía did not attend a House Transportation and Infrastructure hearing, and the committee chair says he will cite the company for contempt. Separately, the head of the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau says the government has to win its roughly $100 million claim against NFE to avoid another rate increase.
House committee chair José “Cheito” Hernández said he will cite the company “so pena de desacato,” meaning under penalty of contempt. The hearing was held under House Resolution 97.
Edison Avilés, president of the Energy Bureau, said the government must win the claim of about $100 million against NFE to avoid another rate increase, El Vocero reported.
In an exclusive with the newspaper, Avilés also asked that the Oficina Independiente de Adquisiciones, known as the 3PPO, stop leading the procurement of temporary generation.
Temporary power
Energy czar Josué Colón said Gothams Energy and Javelin are still in the running for temporary generation. He said Gothams’ request to use pier space in San Juan “no iba a prosperar,” meaning it would not go forward.
Puerto Rico has none of the 800 megawatts of temporary power so far, El Vocero and Metro reported. Units 5 and 6 at the San Juan power plant ran on diesel for about a month.
