A judge found cause to arrest a 61-year-old man on attempted robbery charges at Farmacia Caridad on Ashford Avenue — the second such case at the same Condado pharmacy since Aug. 31.
A San Juan Superior Court judge found cause for arrest against Alberto Juan Esteves Vergne, 61, on charges of attempted aggravated robbery and carrying and using a bladed weapon.
According to the investigation by the San Juan CIC Robbery Division, Esteves Vergne entered Farmacia Caridad on Ashford Avenue in Condado on the afternoon of Sept. 7 and was confronted by an employee as he was leaving with unpaid merchandise. He allegedly displayed a knife and threatened the employee in order to escape.
Outside the pharmacy, he allegedly threatened a homeless person with the same weapon, which was seized as evidence.
Judge Arelys Ortiz Rivera set bail at $40,000. Esteves Vergne was jailed at Institution 705 of the Bayamón Correctional Complex after failing to post it.
Agent Sylvia Nieves Rodríguez investigated the case under Sgt. Joanlee Rivera Ramos. Prosecutor María Sophia Cruz Colón filed the charges.
It is the second attempted robbery reported at the pharmacy in eight days. Condado Daily reported on Sept. 3 that a Lares man faced charges in connection with an unarmed attempted robbery at the same business on Aug. 31. The same agent and sergeant investigated both cases.
