The Amur River left San Juan Bay for the Dominican Republic Saturday to resupply, with NFEnergía saying it should be available to return Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The move comes as a $10,000 fine U.S. District Judge Silvia Carreño Coll imposed on NFEnergía is due by 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28. Outlets differ on what triggers a further $5,000-a-day penalty: WAPA reports it applies if NFE misses Monday’s payment, while NotiCel reports it applies if NFE doesn’t turn over Coast Guard authorization for the tanker’s entry. Condado Daily could not confirm which is correct.
The judge also ordered bay pilot Daniel Montes to submit a maneuver plan for the ship’s return, which NFE said would be filed by noon Sunday, Sept. 27. Condado Daily could not independently confirm whether it was filed on time. The perjury question raised over Montes’s earlier affidavit will be addressed separately, the judge said.
Genera PR says it will “activate applicable contractual mechanisms” to secure alternate gas supply while the tanker is away.
