Puerto Rico’s school bus operators will resume service Tuesday, Oct. 6, after meetings at the Legislative Assembly over unpaid debts, federation president José Rosado announced Monday.
The decision followed a Monday protest by more than 400 school buses over unpaid bills and rising fuel costs.
Officials told the federation that the debt for the previous semester is being sent to the Fiscal Oversight Board for final approval, with payment expected within the following week, according to the announcement. The Federación de Porteadores Escolares also asked Education Secretary Eliezer Ramos Parés to speed up payment of August and September invoices.
No debt total was disclosed. The payments have not been made, and the reports did not confirm that every route will operate Tuesday.
