La Concha Resort has turned one of its Ocean Tower suites into a rotating art exhibit, the first in a new program meant to put guests face-to-face with Puerto Rico’s contemporary art scene.
The Condado hotel, in partnership with Bayamón’s Galería SURCO, unveiled its “Art in Residence” program this week. The inaugural Art Suite, a 970-square-foot Executive Corner Suite in the Ocean Tower, is curated around the work of Puerto Rican artist Carlos Rivera, known as Carlitos Skillz, and includes paintings, sculpture, ceramics, video art and a custom mural.
Guests who book the suite receive two tickets to the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and an invitation to arrange a private tour of SURCO’s gallery in Bayamón.
“Art in Residence gives our guests a more personal way to experience [Puerto Rico’s creative spirit] — by living with the work, discovering the stories behind it and connecting with the island’s creative community beyond the walls of the resort,” La Concha general manager Mike Rivera said in a statement.
More suites planned
La Concha says the Carlitos Skillz suite is the first of five Art Suites planned under the program. A second is already in the works, featuring Puerto Rican fashion designer Herman Nadal in his fine-art practice.
