Buenos Ayres Market & Grill, the Argentine grill that moved from Condado to Punta Las Marías in 2020, has closed after 28 years, owner María Marty announced. The Buenos Ayres closing follows the sale of the property, where a new restaurant will open under a different name.
Marty shared the news in a farewell message on Facebook. “Yesterday the property in Punta Las Marías was sold and Buenos Ayres closes its doors,” she wrote, as Metro Puerto Rico reported. She thanked God and her customers, saying the day to rest had come, and left the door open to a return. Whether the closing is a “see you later,” she wrote, only time will tell.
The new owner plans to open a different restaurant on the property, El Nuevo Día and Primera Hora reported. It will not carry the Buenos Ayres name. None of the reports named the buyer or the new concept, or gave the sale price or a last day of service.
From Borinquen Towers to Punta Las Marías
Buenos Ayres opened in 1999 at the Borinquen Towers shopping center, with Argentine owners Silvio Díaz and Oscar Marty, María Marty’s father, El Nuevo Día reported. A second location, Buenos Ayres Bar & Grill, opened in 2002 at 56 Ave. Condado, in the former Uno restaurant space, according to the same outlet.
The restaurant specialized in Argentine grilled meats and Creole dishes. News is my Business reported in 2020 that it was moving into the former Che’s site in Punta Las Marías.
The property
The corner property near Isla Verde Beach was listed for sale at $2.3 million by the real estate firm Centro Casas, News is my Business reported in November 2025. The listing described about 7,000 square feet with a restaurant, market, bar, bakery and wine cellar, plus 40 parking spaces, and said the site could suit a boutique hotel or a high-end restaurant.
At the time, the outlet reported that Marty planned to retire after 40 years in the family business.
