The Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) opened one small gate at the Carraízo dam in Trujillo Alto on Thursday afternoon after recent rain pushed the reservoir to its overflow level.
The reservoir stood at 40.94 meters, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, Metro Puerto Rico reported.
The AAA said the gate was opened “to regulate the reservoir level and protect the system,” letting it manage incoming water in a controlled way while keeping reserves for possible dry periods. The agency did not report a flow rate.
La Plata reservoir in Comerío dropped six centimeters and is the only reservoir still under operational adjustments.
The National Weather Service in San Juan expects more showers and thunderstorms, with a 60% chance of rain.
